Let me be as clear as possible about our needs. Your contributions make this work. King College has been generous in providing approximately half of our budget. None of your donations go toward staffing. All of your donations go into programming. We run a very frugal ship, and we are quite pleased with the quality of the offerings we have brought to the Tri-Cities for now going on four years.
The idea was to honor Frederick Buechner by establishing a center for conversation on matters of faith and culture. Fred has been here twice, and we hope he might be able to return for the January events and/or for the Buechnerfest in May. In any case, we have stayed close to our mission. If you peruse our website, you will see something of the quality of the performances and lectures we have been able to bring to this place.
Our longterm vision for the Buechner Institute includes a fund for the eventual building of a center which will include a library and classroom space - a place to carry on the work. Furthermore, our programming schedule will require significant funding as we invite noteworthy voices in the national conversation on faith and culture to our region. You may want to help by sending along the names of artists you think would add to the level of our conversation. Perhaps you want to send books relating to the subject of faith and culture that we can add to our library. Maybe you would like to establish a lectureship or contribute to the fees of a particular speaker. Whatever your desire, we welcome your ideas, your involvement, and your help.
Our donations so far have ranged from a few dollars to many thousands of dollars. And we are grateful for them all--every dollar helps. For further information, or to discuss your participation, contact Dale Brown at buechnerinstitute@king.edu.
